Vintage 54.5cm Eddy Merckx Hitachi Team Painted Dura Ace L’eroica Bike. This bike was built specifically for L'Roica. A vintage platform with relatively modern bits so it rides really well. Bike is from 1988. Serial number A2724 The bike was painted as an Eddy Merckx Molteni Paint scheme and is a classic look. Originally purchased in 1988 from the High Wheeler bike shop in Boulder Colorado. In 2005 Joe Bell repaintded the bike in the original Hitachi paint scheme ($1,300). Also at this time a decision was made to change the bike from 7 speed to 8 speed. The rear chain stays were spread to 130mm, the shifting lugs on the down tube were removed and new ones were added to handle the lever shifters. See the photo for this change. These changes were done by Holland Bicycles, a professional custom builder in San Diego, California. Bike is virtually new. I don't think it was ever ridden since it was built up. Fortunately, it is not visible unless you remove the rear wheel.
